Assassin's Creed Introduces Bizarre AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a unexpected crossover event that challenges conventional forecasts, the game developer has announced an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, including free extra story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Adventure Uncovered
According to the official statement, "A mysterious meeting pulls heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new adventure, where whispers of prohibited ceremonies and terrifying changes echo through the darkness." The storyline presents a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who tasks the duo with venturing into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a clandestine sect.
The adventure centers on "peculiar experiments and a fearsome foe" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.
Iconic Settings and Transformations
The trailer features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview concludes with a dramatic moment showing a character, presumably the hostage, transforming into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Prizes and Additional Material
Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an unique katana together with multiple objects secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
- Mikasa costume for Naoe
- Unique arms
- Survey Corps steed
Latest Free Story Content
This update also introduces the game's third free story episode, titled "The Enigma." This playful quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature abilities: Naoe introduces a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Past Anime Crossovers
This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime franchises. The series previously featured a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly included a quest that clearly referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
